Express Entry draw information:

On the 25th of March in the year 2024, the Canadian government (IRCC)  extended invitations to 1,980 candidates to apply for permanent residency in Canada through the Express Entry system. The Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score needed for eligibility was set at 524.

As it was a general draw, invitations were issued to candidates eligible for either of the following programs –

  • Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP)
  • Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP)
  • Canadian Experience Class (CEC)
  • Provincial Nominee Program (PNP)

Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP):

The Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) enables Canada to attract talented workers from various countries who can make valuable contributions to its economy and society. Additionally, this program is part of the trio of economic immigration programs managed by the Express Entry system.

Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP):

The Federal Skilled Trades Program is the sole federal economic immigration initiative that gives priority to trade workers seeking to immigrate to Canada. This program enables skilled trades persons from various countries to make Canada their permanent home.

Canadian Experience Class (CEC):

The Canadian Experience Class (CEC) program falls under the Express Entry system in Canada and is tailored for select temporary foreign workers and foreign student graduates who have acquired skilled work experience in Canada. The primary objective of this program is to facilitate the transition of these individuals from temporary to permanent residence status.

Provincial Nominee Program (PNP):

The Government of Canada, in collaboration with individual provinces, operates the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP), which consists of various Canadian immigration programs. Each province has its own set of requirements and streams within the program.

These streams allow provinces and territories to focus on attracting business people, students, skilled workers, or semi-skilled workers.

Although the provincial governments oversee the PNPs based on their specific goals, the final authority for managing and approving permanent residence applications lies with the federal government’s immigration department, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada.
